How it works

Each day, Whereabouts gives you five questions, each one harder than the last. The challenge isn't multiple choice — it's spatial. You navigate an interactive globe, spin and zoom in, then drop a pin on the spot you think the answer lives. The closer your pin, the higher your score.

Build your streak

Show up every day and your streak grows. Skip a day and it resets to zero. It's the kind of small ritual that turns into something bigger over time — five minutes a day with a globe in your hand.

Play with people you love

Share your daily score with family and friends. Compare how you each handled today's questions. Talk about the ones you missed.

Subscribe for more

A subscription unlocks the friends leaderboard for richer head-to-head competition, plus additional topic packs — including capitals, countries, and more on the way.

When is Whereabouts launching?

How does Whereabouts work?

Each day you get five questions of progressively increasing difficulty. For each one, you navigate an interactive globe and drop a pin on the location you think is correct. Your daily score depends on how close your pins are.

Is Whereabouts free?

The core daily game is free to play. An optional subscription unlocks additional features — the friends leaderboard and bonus topic packs like capitals and countries.

What devices will it support?

Whereabouts is being built natively for iPhone and iPad. We don't currently have an Android version planned.

How does the streak work?

Play any of the five daily questions to keep your streak alive. Miss a full day and it resets to zero — that's part of what makes it satisfying.

Can I share my score with family and friends?

Yes. After completing the day's questions, you can share your daily stats with anyone. Subscribers also get a friends leaderboard for head-to-head competition.

How do I report a bug or wrong answer?

Once Whereabouts is installed, open the app and tap Settings → Support to send a report — a screenshot is ideal. Reports filed in-app reach our support team directly. We take corrections seriously and update the question pool regularly.

Do you collect any personal data?

The short answer: no. We don't ask for accounts, we don't track your behavior, and we don't share data with third parties. Read the full privacy policy for details.

The short version

We don't collect personal information from people who use our app. We don't use analytics SDKs, advertising networks, or tracking tools. We do not sell or share data with third parties.

The longer version below explains the specifics, including the limited information that may be processed by Apple itself when you download or use Whereabouts, and what is involved if you choose to subscribe.

Information we collect

Through Whereabouts

Whereabouts stores your game progress, daily scores, streak, and settings locally on your device. This information never leaves your device unless you choose to back it up via Apple's iCloud service, which is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

If you choose to share your daily stats with family or friends, that sharing is initiated by you through your device's standard sharing options — we do not see, store, or transmit the content you share.

We do not use third-party analytics, advertising, crash reporting, or attribution SDKs in our app.

If you subscribe

Subscriptions to unlock the friends leaderboard and additional topic packs are processed through Apple's App Store and StoreKit. Apple handles the payment, billing, and subscription management — we do not see, store, or have access to your payment information. We may receive aggregate, anonymized information from Apple about subscription activity.

To enable the friends leaderboard feature, your scores and a chosen display name may be associated with an anonymous identifier so that you and your friends can see one another's results. This data is used solely to operate the leaderboard feature and is not used for advertising or shared with third parties.

Through this website

This website does not use cookies for tracking, does not embed third-party trackers, and does not require you to create an account. Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) may be retained briefly by our hosting provider for security and operational purposes, and are not used to identify or profile individual visitors.

When you contact us

If you email us, we receive your email address and the content of your message. We use this only to reply to you and to keep a record of the conversation. We do not add you to any marketing lists.

Information collected by Apple

When you download Whereabouts from the App Store, Apple may collect information about that download according to Apple's Privacy Policy. We may receive aggregate, anonymized statistics from Apple about app downloads and usage (such as country of download or app version) through App Store Connect. This data is not associated with any individual user.

Children's privacy

Whereabouts is designed to be enjoyed by people of all ages, including children. Because we do not collect personal information from any user, we likewise do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Our practices are designed to be compliant with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent regulations.

How we share information

We don't. We do not sell, rent, trade, or otherwise share user information with third parties. The only exceptions would be if we were legally required to do so by a valid legal process, or if doing so were necessary to protect our rights, property, or safety.

Your rights

Because we collect very little personal data, there's typically very little for us to access, correct, or delete on your behalf. If you have contacted us by email and would like that correspondence deleted, or if you'd like your leaderboard data removed, simply email [email protected] and we'll take care of it.

Residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and California have certain rights under applicable data protection laws (such as GDPR and CCPA), including the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the processing of personal data. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address above.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect any information we do hold. Email correspondence is stored on industry-standard infrastructure with appropriate access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but our deliberate choice to collect as little data as possible is itself one of the strongest privacy protections we can offer.

If we make material changes to this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, for changes of substance, post a notice on our website. We encourage you to check this page periodically.

Acceptance of terms

License to use our app

Subject to your compliance with these terms, Inventist grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download and use Whereabouts on Apple devices that you own or control, in accordance with the App Store Terms of Service and the Apple Media Services Terms.

Subscriptions

Whereabouts offers an optional auto-renewing subscription that unlocks additional features, including the friends leaderboard and bonus topic packs. Subscriptions are billed through your Apple ID and managed in your App Store account settings. Pricing, billing intervals, and renewal terms will be clearly disclosed at the point of purchase. You can cancel at any time through your Apple ID subscription settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

What you may not do

Intellectual property

All content, features, and functionality of our app and website — including but not limited to text, graphics, logos, illustrations, code, and design — are the exclusive property of Inventist or its licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.

User content and feedback

If you send us suggestions, ideas, feedback, or other materials ("Feedback"), you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free license to use that Feedback for any purpose, including improving our app and services, without obligation to you.

Disclaimers

Our app and website are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. While we try to ensure that all factual content is accurate, we make no guarantees of accuracy, completeness, or reliability. If you find an error, please let us know via the contact page.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Inventist shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of our app or website.
